Nintendo”s Iwata talks grooming Miyamoto”s successors, fewer game.
‘Should we advertise and create a lot of buzz from many months before launch, the customers may feel as if they have gotten tired of the product even before the product launches.

?There is a risk today that they may feel that they have already experienced it enough and are done with it prior to launch.?

As a result, Nintendo are beginning to filter information about upcoming games more effectively, while keeping unannounced games close to their chest until closer to the product”s launch, in order to avoid this consumer burnout and not grow gamer”s expectations too much, which unavoidably becomes too great a challenge to meet:

?Today, if I should make such comments like ‘the next product we will launch will be great,’ that other CEOs are often making,’ Iwata continued, ‘people would have extraordinarily high expectations toward it and will end up feeling that it was not up to their expectations regardless of whatever product we will have launched.more

New Advertising Trend: Fake ‘Public Service’ Ads.
Pfizer has produced a great example of stealth advertising with its commercial promoting a Web site called MyTimeToQuit.com. The ad has the look and feel of a public service announcement, and mentions neither Pfizer, nor the popular smoking cessation drug it promotes — Chantix (varenicline). The ad represents a growing trend in drug advertising called ‘help-seeking ads,’ which don”t mention a drug by name, but instead address the condition the drug is meant to treat, and then drive viewers to a toll-free 800 number or a Web site that offers an option to learn more about a prescription drug meant to treat the condition. It is a sneaky, but legal way to advertise drugs that have particularly bad side effects, since avoiding mentioning the drug by name lets the company off the hook for listing its bad side effects in the ad, too, according to the U.S.more

Our view: Sex-for-hire is crime by any name.
Her accomplice, Anthony Gorgoglione Jr. of Millbury, took pictures of the girls wearing lingerie and posted them on a Web site used to advertise the business. Halstrom took $100 from each of the $300 appointments as her share.

The jury in Lawrence Superior Court found Halstrom guilty on three counts of inducing a minor into prostitution and three counts of deriving support from a child prostitute. She faces a sentence of five years to life in prison.

Gorgoglione was also found guilty on two charges of inducing a minor into prostitution.

Lawyers for both defendants say they will appeal.

Defense attorneys argued that the girls were minors in age only, that they were living independently and made their own choices about their lives.

But child abuse statutes and other laws that treat minors differently from adults recognize that children do not make rational, responsible choices.more

Clearance sales outside the law.
Fort Wayne Newspapers advertising staff typically ask for a permit number before allowing a retailer to advertise a going-out-of-business sale.

‘Always, always, our first line of defense has been the newspaper,’ he said.

Employees at various steps in the advertising process make sure going-out-of-business ads include a permit number or ‘we don”t allow it to run, period,’ said Katherine Colclesser, Fort Wayne Newspapers” retail advertising director.

Fort Wayne Newspapers is the business agent for The Journal Gazette and The News-Sentinel. It is formed through a partnership between The Journal Gazette Co. and Ogden Newspapers, which owns The News-Sentinel.

If the retailer doesn”t have the necessary permit, the bureau calls the business owner to make sure he knows about the law.more

Most-Watched TV Commercials.
It pays to advertise in ABC”s top drama, ‘Grey”s Anatomy.’ According to TiVo”s StopWatch ratings service, eight of the top 10 most-watched commercials aired during the medical show.

But TiVo notes the most-watched commercial didn”t air in the top-rated episode of the series, which appeared March 26, and that only four of the 30-plus ads that aired that night made the list at all.

‘This data reinforces, as it does every month, that paying to be in the No. 1 program does not necessarily mean you will get the highest commercial audience,’ said Todd Juenger, VP and general manager of TiVo Audience Research & Measurement.

The list of the top 10 commercials follows:

Two types of online-video purveyors are competing for advertisers.
Hulu doesn”t disclose its finances, but online advertising experts estimate that its advertising rates are several times higher than YouTube”s.

‘Generating revenue from user-generated content is very, very difficult, and that”s probably being generous,’ said Josh Martin, a senior analyst at the Yankee Group, a technology-research firm based in Boston. ‘The reason Hulu”s been successful is that it”s providing the content that people want.’

That”s left YouTube to play catchup. Since November, the company has added TV shows, movies and other videos from the likes of Sony Pictures, CBS, MGM and ABC. This month, the site added a new section called ‘Shows’ to promote its collection of Hollywood-produced videos.

YouTube now has more than 500 Hollywood movies on its site, including Super Size Me and the recent remake of The Mod Squad.more

Traditional or Digital - Who Will Win?.
With so many variations on the digital theme, and a growing number of agencies working across so many, often blurred, disciplines - Advertising, Design, Production, Web Development, Media, Search, Social Media and Full Service - the landscape can appear confusing.

What is digital? And where are the battle lines drawn? For the purpose of this piece I have assumed we are working solely within advertising, and from that perspective, no matter digital”s evolution, traditional agencies still hold the upper hand in several areas.

Firstly, relationships. One of the very first things I learnt in this industry was that you do not lose clients because of bad work; you lose them because of bad relationships (it is far easier to address a work issue than to repair a fractured relationship).more

Consultants in University Hospital Galway were told last year that wards and theatres would be closed, and services in the Hospital restricted if they did not return outstanding private insurance claim forms amounting to approximately 6.5 million, it has emerged.

In October 2008, 6,454,212 remained in outstanding claims for private work conducted by consultants in the Hospital during the year, according to the minutes of the Hospital”s Executive Management Team (EMT) obtained by IMN.

It was stressed at a meeting of the Team that for the Hospital to remain within budget for 2008, these claims had to be recovered immediately.Members of the Team subsequently met with the top 10 consultants in the Hospital in an effort to reduce the deficit.

However, at the next meeting of the EMT in November, it was stated that the Hospital management was ‘not receiving the necessary appropriate response from all consultants with old outstanding claims’, which was noted as a ‘disappointing outcome’.more

Is Email Advertisements A Business?.
One method that many people use to advertise their wellness industry products is through email advertisements. This is a highly effective form of advertising that can bring in substantial profits for your business. The key is to effectively use the email advertisement campaign.

The first important thing to remember is that you do not want to spam people. Spam is sending out unsolicited emails to people in the form of advertisements or even with information. Some people think that they can send out informational articles and have a link at the bottom for their websites. If this type of email is done without the consent of the receiver, you are sending them spam. Even though you are not directly advertising to them, it is still spam and you can get into big trouble for this. Additionally, you will irritate potential customers.more

Desperate advertisers to slow down your email, web browsing.
According to Online Media Daily, Turner Broadcasting is also using the system to advertise the NBA playoffs, and a major concert promoter plans to use it to drive traffic to its shows. While the concept is not new, internet service providers have heretofore refused such traffic for fear of viruses and such. Goodmail has solved this problem. (Disclosure: CertifiedVideo is currently available only at AOL, although the company claims it will soon have agreements with many other ISPs. While DailyFinance.com is an AOL site, I don”t have anything to do with the ad part of the business.)

Another new pitch to expect is the insertion of video clips between internet pages. If you click on a ‘read more’ button or other link within a domain, for example, a 15-second ad for Wolverine or Cialis might play before the next page would load.more
