Advertising agency roundtable responses.
Even with the current financial woes, online advertising is expected to grow in 2009.

With terms like ‘integration’ and ‘consolidation’ at the forefront, we should expect to see more clients looking for integrated solutions in order to reduce the number of agency partners and ultimately, reduce costs and marketing expenses. Additionally, we are seeing clients move to non-personal initiatives to compensate for their reduced field forces. But, in general, even though there is much greater emphasis on cost efficiency, we are somewhat insulated because no company can afford not to invest in a launch brand or jeopardize sales of an in-line brand.

Literary seminary professor found spiritual insight in Walker Percy.
His dream: to get into the advertising business and write ’super ad copy’ for ‘the man in the Hathaway shirt’ and Rolls-Royce.

He got his college degree in communications and advertising, but ended up working for a manufacturer of agricultural and industrial machinery. Eventually, Cook returned to the endless plains of Pampa with his wife, Chris, an Iowa gal, and two children to work in the family businesses - retail and banking. She called her husband at work. Her Panhandle days, it was clear, were numbered.

‘That”s called culture shock,’ Charlie Cook said dryly.

Soon after, the family bade farewell to the tumbleweeds and rolled into Austin”s Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, where Cook enrolled in the class of 1974 .more

Industries make choices on advertising during tough times.
The cooperative gets its brand in front of people through branded merchandise, brochures, newsletters, advertising programs and sponsorships of community entities and events. While some of those devices will remain in place, Jones is concerned about Jackson EMC”s ability to help the communities it serves.

‘We help out with a lot of community activities through sponsorships,’ she said. ‘That”s something we”re going to have to take a hard look at. We never forget that when we spend money, we”re spending our members” money. We”re very conscious of that.’

Jones said, however, Jackson EMC is not planning to scale back in a large way.

‘A lot depends on the market,’ she said. ‘There are things we”d like to do in the next year that we may or may not be able to do, but I don”t think we”ll decrease our advertising budget.more
