Skipping generations of technologies with eyes on the end game, Canoe Ventures is working on the holy grail of advertising. There is no doubt that the team at Canoe and their peers at the participating cable operators have worked out the details in what Canoe is calling the Common Advanced Advertising System (CAAS). The only catch is that the drawings were so detailed that they were difficult to read on the screen at last week”s NCTA Technical Papers session, ‘Sending the Right Message: Techniques and Technologies for Targeting Advertising.’ Canoe Ventures CTO Arthur Orduna said the small type was a ploy to get everyone to read the paper to discover the details.more

Georges St. Pierre ends Dana White”s "UFC 2009 Undisputed" win streak.
Designers nailed every minor detail imaginable, including real-world cornermen (John Hackleman was holding an advertising banner and shouting orders to Liddell during pre-fight introductions), actual MMA referees, ring girls, commentators Joe Rogan and Mike Golberg, an amazingly realistic cageside crowd (with fans, event officials and even a media section with reporters pecking away on their laptops), mock TV graphics identical to the kind you see on pay-per-view broadcasts, a dressed-to-the-nines Bruce Buffer, flash bulbs, in-cage advertising, official UFC music and, well, you get the idea. Even the fighters” subtle movements and swaying during their official introductions were spot on. At first glance, you”d think you were watching an actual UFC event, complete with the customary camera angles and all.more

Locking in: Save a lot - or pay the price.
‘It”s easier to plan that way, and I think you”re saving money,’ says Brian Bell, an advertising salesman who signed a 2-year, fixed-price contract for electricity at the 1,500-square-foot Dallas town house he bought last year.

Other homeowners across the country are locking in prices now on electricity for summer cooling and heating oil for next winter. Heating oil prices are nearly 60 percent lower than they were at this time last year, according to Energy Department figures.

Natural gas prices have fallen as well, which not only affects the price homeowners pay for gas but the price of electricity produced by power plants that run on gas.

Homeowners are doing what many large companies do to guard against sharp increases in prices for commodities ranging from crude oil to chicken feed.more

The bill includes strong, effective restrictions on advertising and marketing of tobacco products to children. A lifetime addiction almost always starts in the teenage years: 90 percent of adult smokers began smoking as teens. Any attempt to limit the national epidemic of tobacco addiction must begin with children.

By passing the Family Smoking Prevention and Control Act, Congress can take a major step to protect our children and reduce the terrible toll of tobacco on our community.more
