What”s next: A butler for your idle computer?.
Media companies could pay-per-download for content they want to advertise. While many companies are fighting content pirates, they still want awareness for new, lesser-known, or highly-monetizable titles. When CBS launches a new show, U2 releases a new album, or Stephen King publishes a new book, pushing a teaser episode or chapter to millions of targeted users, knowing what”s been viewed and shared, and tracking conversions to purchases is pretty valuable. File-sharing is expected to grow to a $28 billion market by 2011.
For consumers, the base program would be free, but users could pay for premium features like early access to popular content, advanced search and filters, and faster downloads. File-sharing companies like Rapidshare, Kazaa, and eMule have successfully upsold users on similar features.more

2008 Technology - Internet - Volume 4 - IPv6 - Companies and.
We discuss attempts to avoid this through the use of address assignment policy and the filtering of BGP advertisements. Now that three RIRs assign Provider Independent /48 prefixes to end-users, we review the difficulty in constraining routing table growth unless a new routing and addressing architecture is developed. We also critique calls for the RIR?s control over IPv6 address assignment to be opened up to include multiple for-profit registration companies. We review the transition mechanisms for running dual-stack host operating systems with IPv6 connectivity via tunnels over the IPv4 network. There are several approaches to this, including 6to4 and Microsoft?s Teredo. Finally, we consider the countries and application areas where IPv6 is most likely to be adopted, including mobile and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) applications in the USA, Korea and in China.more

Theatre goes to the Net to bring in younger audiences.
Let”s not market in the traditional way any longer with an advertisement in the corner of Bombay Times. Students may not get the paper, but they will be on the Internet. We”re learning from them and the stakes have gone up. This is about us getting our act together and the producers are growing up. We”re mentally starting to seek new ways to get out there because if we continue with the old way of marketing, then we will die,’ says da Cunha. .more

Google, AOL, Yahoo and Microsoft To US: Don”t Tread On Me (GOOG.
Google, AOL, Yahoo and Microsoft, along with a host of other advertising, agency and marketer associations, took another step in pressing their case that the government doesn”t need to regulate the collecting of data for ad-targeting purposes by search engines, websites, advertisers and ad networks. They”ve crafted their own set of rules in the hope of heading off potential regulation in Congress.
For months, a wide-ranging group of marketers, portals, publishers and ad networks represented by industry groups — such as the Interactive Advertising Bureau, the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the Direct Marketing Association and the Association of National Advertisers — have been working on ’self-regulatory principles,’ which were released today. They require sites to provide prominent disclosure of who is collecting information and the ability to opt out, inform consumers of any change to a site”s privacy policy, and offer special protections for sensitive data connected to health and financial issues or children, among other things.more

Bits of Business Local expo to focus on women.
The advertising campaign was funded through state and federal recruitment grants to promote volunteer fire service in the community.
What emerged were several audio and visual commercials that have aired on both local television and radio.
Dello Stritto said that for Loaded, the highlight of the campaign was working with the Alphas.
‘To see how they operate … to see the camaraderie, it was just awesome,’ he said.
Part of the company”s filming included talking stock video ‘B-roll’ at the fire station. While they were at the station an emergency call came in and the fire crews responded — which became part of the footage that made it into the television spots.
‘It was really interesting to see (the call come in),’ Dello Stritto said.more

Nintendo Finances British Game Show.
Even though it”s a pretty sweet deal for Nintendo, they do face some obstacles when it comes to advertising their products during the show. Since product placement is illegal in the UK, no one can mention Nintendo consoles, games or other products during the show. Kind of an odd advertising deal, but what do I know? The group behind the show is GroupM Entertainment and Tiger Aspect. These companies brought you such hits as ‘The Catherine Tate Show’, ‘Harry Enfield and Chums’ and ‘Mr. Bean’. I”m only familiar with the last one, but it sounds like a pretty decent group. It”s fun to see Nintendo looking for new ways to advertise during an economically hard time. Think about it, would rather see a game show using Nintendo type products and games, or would you rather see some odds and ends advertisments that would get lost in the fray? Only time will tell if the new idea pays off for Nintendo; for those in the UK, watch out come October! .more
